Living in small home designs doesn’t mean it has to feel that way. It also doesn’t mean that the house has to look small either. There are techniques to making small home designs look big. I had a client to tell me that they wanted a ranch house, but wanted it to look like a two-story house. The statement was funny, but I understood what my client was trying to convey to me. Basically, the couple wanted the coziness of a one story home with the look and feel of a two-story home. So how do you go about doing it?
The main argument is that you can quickly transfer groceries from the car to the kitchen. It is an old argument, yet a powerful one still. Given the fact that grocery shopping happens once or twice a month on average, you would think that the other 300 plus days out of the year trump that reasoning. Nonetheless, the best solution is to make these rooms adjacent or as close to each other as possible.
There are three main kitchen designs and each is designed with a purpose. Their layouts and the locations of the appliances are strategically placed in different areas so as to maximize the working space in the kitchen. Even the smallest kitchen will be used to its fullest for as long as people follow these space saving designs.
Bathrooms, designing a house for senior citizens with easier to use door handles, better lighting, and safer stair ways is important. However, one of the most important elements of designing a house for the elderly is to remodel the restroom. A bath or shower with hand rails and with a door to eliminate the need to step over the side of the tub is critical. Adding a hand rail next to the toilet and other places is also helpful.
