Windows are left uncovered to take advantage of natural light. Wooden surfaces such as cupboards, door and window frames, shutters or ceiling beams are often left with a natural patina. Colors in Tuscan style decorating come from the earth. Terracotta, brick, ochre, greens, and golden yellow are seen everywhere. Blue and green are added to contribute a visual cooling effect in areas with hot weather. Surfaces that have been painted add a dash of color even when the finish wears off.
Contemporary Style: Modern styles keep current trends alive. While what's hot changes, typically the contemporary look includes a fundamental, simplistic, and subtle sophistication. There's often neutral colors involved, structural elements available, and furniture pieces that are smooth and geometric. Traditional: Take a look at traditional styles and compare them with some of the latest decorating trends. You'll likely find that nothing is truly new, but rather revamped. Regardless, it's fun to see how old favorite themes, fabrics, and details adapt to a fresh new look.
For example, beige might have an undertone of pink, tan or gold. White might be slightly ivory, yellow, bluish or peachy. Neutrals can be used in decor in two basic ways -- either as a soft, neutral only, quiet look or as background colors for dramatic accents.
Window Treatments. Empty windows are cold and impersonal. Put some sort of window treatment, whether it's drapes, blinds or shutters, on every single window in your home. There are tons of options and what you choose should be based on personal style, the style of the room, the shape of the window and the amount of privacy you desire.
